BAFTA Awards: Best Dressed

The British Academy Film and Television Arts Awards took place in London, England last night and there is lots of buzz, buzz buzz! Firstly, congratulations to all the award recipients –  recognizing talent by hosting a glamorous evening with an A-list celebrity attendance is surely an exciting way to celebrate success. But for us fashion-minded folk, watching the endless parade of couture confections brings the most entertainment and joy from the show. After discovering, debating, digesting and deciding, here are my top 5 favourite fashion picks.

Angelina Jolie in Saint Laurent (and Brad Pitt in Versace)

Not only do I have a long-standing, deep-running absolute adoration for Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking classic, revolutionary tuxedo look that debuted back in the 60s, I am also a sucker for couples in love who (occassionally) match their outfits. Jolie looks supremely sophisticated, and because its a rarity that her and her fiancé go all out twinning, it’s a double win for me.

Uma Thurman in Atelier Versace

So simple, so classic, so sexy. Uma opted for an understated navy silk cady gown with a head-turning slit up the back. The actress effortlessly dazzled with the addition of a diamond choker that made a huge impact while still maintaining a minimalist air of elegance.

Lily Allen, Vivienne Westwood

Lily Allen, the queen of British quirk, stunned in a satiny gown that featured a magenta skirt topped by a ruffled orange bodice, which were highlighted by a massive tangerine bow in the back. Topped with a candy-pink, super spiky hair bow, the lovely Ms. Allen reminded us that fashion is fun.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Lanvin

If there is ever a time to pull out all the stops and totally indulge in all-out glamour, an awards show is definitely it. The usually demure Ms. Gyllenhaal wowed in this dramatic, deep-violet lace and grosgrain embroidered gown. The sheer sleeves lent an ethereal feel, completed by the stunning, artful adornments of pearls and jewels across the front and shoulders.

Imogen Poots in Givenchy

Hot off the Spring 2014 runway, presenter Imogen Poots did this Givenchy gown some serious justice. The deep berry hue, subtly sexy cutouts, swingy-pleated skirt and high-necked halter gown was proper, polished and absolutely pure perfection.
